A&L study says third of small firm entrepreneurs have a degree

Traits shared by entrepreneurs have been revealed by new research.

The YouGov study, on behalf of Alliance &  Leicester, showed few business owners had received private education, although nearly a fifth left school with at least GCSEs or O levels.
The survey of 843 business owners with a turnover of less than £1 million showed just over a third were educated to degree level.

Nine out of 10 of those surveyed said they had not had a wealthy background, with 50 per cent saying they had come from middle-class families and 43 per cent working class.

A third of entrepreneurs started their business between the ages of 26 and 35 and London is the most likely place for a small business to start up.
