New diplomas introduced for teenagers next month should be treated the same as current qualifications, say business leaders.
Local business owners and managers congratulated county students on another year of excellent A-level and AS-level results. But they said vocational diplomas, being introduced for 14 to 19-year-olds in September, should be given equal value.
The Federation of Small Businesses, which has more than 6,000 county members, believes the new qualifications will encourage young people to be more entrepreneurial and better prepare them for the world of work.
FSB Lincolnshire region chairman David Dexter said: "We will value A-levels, but we hope to see diplomas and work-based training on the same par.
"I would like to remind students that many of our most successful business people never went to university."
